When the drive from Mirdif is worth it
Mirdif is a family suburb of villas and townhouses with gardens. Labradors, golden retrievers and mixed-breed rescues are everywhere, along with plenty of house cats. It also has several vets inside the community. For an annual vaccine or a nail trim, the one near your house is the sensible choice.
We are useful to Mirdif owners in 3 situations. First, after 8 PM, when a dog has eaten a sock or a cat has stopped using the tray. Second, when a problem needs x-ray or ultrasound and surgery in one building. Third, when you want a second opinion and a written estimate before a procedure.
Call before you leave. The nurse asks 4 or 5 questions and tells you whether to come now, come in the morning, or go somewhere closer. If your dog is bloated and retching without bringing anything up, do not wait for a call back. Go to the nearest open vet, and phone our urgent care line on the way.

Living with pets in Mirdif
Retriever ears and summer humidity
Floppy ears trap moisture, and Dubai's humid months make it worse. Head shaking, a sour smell and brown wax mean infection. Swimming pools add to it. The vet looks down the canal with an otoscope and checks the eardrum before any drops are chosen.
Socks, toys and corn cobs
Family homes with children have more swallowed objects than any other kind. Labradors lead the list. Vomiting with nothing passing for 24 hours needs an x-ray. Tell us what is missing from the house. It helps the vet read the image.
Weight in family dogs
A dog fed by 4 family members gets 4 sets of treats. Labradors gain weight more easily than most breeds. Extra weight loads the hips and knees. One person should measure the food, in grams, once a day.
School holidays and travel
Mirdif empties in July and August. Book boarding or a sitter by May, and check that vaccines will not expire while you are away. If the pet is flying with you, bring the destination's rules to a consultation at least 3 months ahead.
Park walks and hot ground
From May to October, walk before 7 AM or after sunset. Sand and paving both burn pads. Dogs with thick coats overheat before they show it. A dog that lies down and refuses to move on a walk is too hot. Get it into shade and wet its belly.
After the children are asleep
Parents often cannot leave the house until 9 PM. The clinic is open until 12 AM every day, and the road from Mirdif is quiet by then. Send a WhatsApp message first, and we tell you how long the wait is.
